It all started when…

Jacob was 14 and was attending Muswellbrook high school in metal work class, the project for the week was to forge and heat treat 3 different sized cold chisels. From then on He was hooked on building things out of steel.

However Jacobs passion for joining the Australian Army was much stronger. At the at age of 17 he enlisted as a rifleman and completed his training at Recruit Traing Base Kapooka and the school of Infantry Singleton.

Jacob had since served around the majority of Australia with the 7th Royal Australian Regiment including when his unit deployed to Afghanistan in 2012.

After returning home and serving for 9 years Jacob decided to have a change of scenery and thought back to his passion as a teenager for building things out of steel.

Jacob sought out Doug Moseley and attended a 10 day course where Doug taught Jacob the fundamentals about moving, bending and twisting steel.

Thats when Plane Old Iron was born, Jacob left Dougs forge and started his own journey in furthering his skills and knowledge in Blacksmithing.

Jacob has since completed The toolbox masterclass with Matthew Mewburn from Eveleigh Works where he learnt how to make the tools to make the tools to make his first hammer.

You can now find Jacob at Local Markets in Warners Bay, Maitland, in the Hunter Valley region selling his items, doing demonstrations for local charities such as The Mens Shed or running begginer Blacksmith classes from his workshop.
